Hi, I’m Melanie, a Baby Boomer/GenX’er born on the cusp—which makes me young enough not to be stuck in my ways and old enough to know when to get out of the way. Useful traits. I’ve been doing tax preparation, bookkeeping, accounting, and I’m a CPA , in that ascending and combined order, longer than I’ve been a mother, which at the strike of midnight this past New Years’ Eve, was 21 years.

I’m new at blogging, but not to blogs. They’re especially useful  if the subject matter starts getting tedious, boring and blah, blah, blah—like some of the stuff in my field. See, I’m not stuck in the past and I’ll duck if another CPA throws a calculator at me.

Want to learn something about a good CPA? It’s a secret, but here goes:

“We’re practicing.”

Yup, that’s right. Just like lawyers and doctors. The learning never ends. Continuing education is a requirement. The laws and regulations continually change so we continually learn about tax preparation, payroll services, accounting and auditing, insurance and financial planning and much more.  CE also branches out into the particular programs we use, QuickBooks, tax and payroll programs and any number of local, state and federal programs and filing and monitoring portals.

You might also want to know about our computers, who is our ‘go-to’ company and what are their credentials.  Who backs up our stuff (which is really YOUR stuff) and what happens if the power goes out or…any number of things!  You’ll probably want to know how your files are stored, both electronically and physically. Ever thought about how you’re going to input your day-to-day business transactions if ‘we have’ your QuickBooks files?  Then, ‘what in the world happens to all the paper?’

There’s a lot involved and it changes constantly—that’s the reason Continuing Education is a requirement and a priviledge, and the reason a CPA practices all the time…just like your doctor and your lawyer.

Hope you’ll follow my blog and learn more about me and the things I do so you and your business can benefit from ALL MY PRACTICE!

Oh, there will actually be fun stuff, too!  After all, I am a human being!  Here for you always, Melanie
